The Lost Valentine: Hallmark's 2011 Valentine Movie

The Lost Valentine, Hallmark's new Valentine's Day movie stars Betty White and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Apparently, Betty White has always really wanted to do a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie and finally has her opportunity in this war story.

The Lost Valentine is airing very soon and I am excited because it really does look good and because it is NOT airing on the Hallmark channel, which means that people who do not receive the channel will be able to watch it!

Curiously, The Lost Valentine is often mistakenly called The Last Valentine, which is the actual name of the book written by James Pratt that this movie is based on.

You can learn more about the movie including when The Lost Valentine will air and you can watch both of the movie trailers at my page all about The Lost Valentine by clicking right here.

Lucille Laverne The Evil Queen in Snow White

Let me introduce you to Lucille Laverne, the lady who voiced the evil Queen and the hag witch in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Ms. Laverne was a successful actress and appeared in silent films, on stage and, in her later years, as the voice of one of the scariest villains of all time.  Walt Disney may have been right to worry that she was TOO scary as some children still find her very scary indeed.

To read more, visit my page, Meet Lucille LaVerne: The Voice of The EVIL QUEEN in Snow White, by clicking right here.  Learn how one woman easily made two separate voices (how she did it will make you smile), watch a clip from the movie in which she transforms from the Queen to the hag and let us know if you think Ms. Laverne made the perfect Queen.

Duel in the Sun Movie Review

Whoever heard of a western movie that was called a torrid tale of passion? Not I, that is for sure although I would be the first to admit I am not very familiar with many western movies.

I was challenged this week to write a page about the 1947 western movie Duel in the Sun,  which starred the legendary Gregory Peck as well as Joseph Cotten, Jennifer Jones, Lionel Barrymore, Herbert Marshall and Lillian Gish.

I learned a lot.

Including the fact that this movie was over-the-top and probably way ahead of its time.

Producer David O. Selznick poured a lot of effort into this movie, hoping for big things. However, the combination of sexual content on screen and behind the scenes as well as the huge budget spent in trying to create an epic western, may have helped keep this movie from becoming another huge success for Selznick.

Despite the facts, however, that this movie is controversial and over the top, people still enjoy it.

First Tron Movie Coming to Blu-ray and DVD

MOVIE RUMOUR: The first Tron movie is coming to us on blu-ray and DVD in March or April. Renamed Tron: The Original Classic, it will also feature new cover artwork.

The HDR Room reports that Disney has been hard at work restoring the first Tron movie since last fall.  It appears that Tron will be sold on blu-ray disc with the DVD version as one of Disney's typical combo packages.

Of course, if all of this talk of Tron on blu-ray has you wondering when Tron: The Legacy will be available on blu-ray, you should not have to wait long. Online speculation has it that both movies will likely be released on blu-ray and DVD at approximately the same time.

You can sign up here to be notified when the new version of Tron becomes available or here to be notified when the first version becomes available.  Of course, if you can afford it, the original Tron movie is available now on both DVD and VHS.

Marge Champion: The Model For Snow White

Have you ever wondered who Walt Disney based Snow White on? On the page Meet Marge Champion, we learn about how Miss Champion was chosen and we discuss how much Walt Disney paid her for her work and whether or not it was enough.

We discover that Ms. Champion was not blacklisted by Walt Disney (the way Adriana Caselotti was) AND we learn that Ms. Champion went on to enjoy a successful dance career.

We all know that in the end the Snow White franchise earned Walt Disney a fortune and that it continues to do so today. This past year, Disney reissued the movie on DVD and on blu-ray disc. The remastered classic received high marks and I am sure appeared under many Christmas trees this year.

Disney profits...

And what of Ms. Champion? Once again, something to think about.

Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown Movie Review

Poor old Charlie Brown...if you have seen Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown, you will know exactly what I am referring to. If you have not seen it and care about not knowing the outcome, then I recommend you not visit my review page. (But there are no spoilers on THIS page so for now you are safe.)

If you have seen Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown by Charles M. Schulz I would love to hear what you think about what happened to Charlie Brown in this animated children's classic.

I was shocked.

I look forward to your visit and hearing whether you were horrified, too or whether you think it was no big deal and that Charlie Brown was up to the task.

And in case you were wondering, Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown is NOT available on blu-ray disc.

Meet Adriana Caselotti: The Voice of Snow White

Have you ever wondered how much Walt Disney paid Adriana Caselotti for being the voice of Snow White?

On Meet Adriana Caselotti, we discuss how much Walt Disney paid her for her iconic voice and we discuss whether or not it was enough.

We discover that Ms. Caselotti was blacklisted by Walt Disney from participating in future productions when he tried to keep the image of Snow White from showing up on or in any other productions AND we learn that Ms. Caselotti did not have a lot of future success as a singer or an actress.

No one need tell us that the Snow White franchise has earned the Walt Disney company a fortune and continues to do so to this day.

In 2010, Disney reissued the movie on blu-ray disc and the the three-disc blu-ray Diamond edition received high marks, with Blu-ray.com calling it 'gorgeous.'  Blu-ray.com went on in their review of this blu-ray set to praise the high quality of the video, the audio and the huge selection of special features.  Once again, Disney profits...

And what of Ms. Caselotti? Well, she is gone now but whether or not she was amptly rewarded for her role in Snow White is certainly something to think about.

The Peanut Butter Solution (1985) A Rare Movie

Sometimes I stumble across a rare movie with a background that takes me by surprise. The Peanut Butter Solution is one of them.

As it turns out, this movie has a legion of followers...people who watched it in the 1980s and were scared and never totally able to forgot about it. However, many of them forgot the name of the movie and spent years telling their friends and family about a movie where this boy paints his bald head with peanut butter to see if his hair will grow back. They don't actually reconnect with the movie until they google "movie with boy who uses peanut butter to grow hair" or something along those lines.

Then they are surprised and delighted to find The Peanut Butter Solution and realize that they weren't making this crazy story up and that the movie actually does exist.

Unfortunately for those who remember this scary family comedy fondly, it is only available on VHS video tape. Yes, that's right no DVD and definitely no blu-ray versions are available.  If you want to own this movie, it will have to be on VHS videotape and a new one will probably be very expensive. You can find The Peanut Butter Solution on Amazon here.

How about you? Have you ever heard of The Peanut Butter Solution?
