A coffee mug is something that everyone can use and I cannot imagine a gift that a Hunger Games fan would like more than one they can use every day. The Catching Fire Soundtrack

I read an AMAZING review of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack and I believe that it appeals to all fans of the trilogy. Right now I'm listening to Coldplay's Atlas, which is the lead single from the soundtrack and perfectly simmers until it boils over...

Consequence of Sound  called the soundtrack a nice curation. The Ottawa Citizen, my local newspaper, gave the soundtrack a very strong four stars and says, "There's no clear victor on this record, apart from the fan."

The movie soundtrack is available on CD or MP3. Note that there are two choices a regular edition and a deluxe edition though if you're going to buy this release, I'm not sure why any fan would settle for the first.  You will find it here on Amazon.

The Limited Edition Poster Set

This set is a nice way to collect posters of your favorite characters from the movie. Included in this set of eight are Cato, Effie, Haymitch, Cinna, Gale, Katniss, Peeta and Rue. Amazon reports that only 2,500 of this poster set are being produced. Out of production, it is no longer available on Amazon but you can try to see if any have become available by clicking here.

The Mockingjay Pin

Every fan of The Hunger Games knows the significance of the mockingjay and will want to own a pin.  If you are after one, you might want to check out this bronze pin, which is available directly from Amazon and which is very affordable, too making it the perfect way to show your support for Katniss Everdeen. A Down With The Capitol Poster

You just follow directions and race through the game. The game is recommended for children between the ages of 3 and 7.

Continuing in my series of movies and shows based on toys for young children, let’s celebrate Angelina Ballerina and Mousical Medleys in which the mouselings visit with the stars of Mousical and the Musical may be ruined. In this hour-long show, Gracie jeopardizes a dance-a-thon when she turns her attention to recycling.

In the 2012 program, your child learns all about teamwork when Dizzy learns to be thoughtful, Roley learns that safety is of utmost importance and Scrambler discovers he needs a team to get the job done. All important lessons in life. I know a couple of grown men who would have loved Bob the Builder if he had been around when they were boys.

DELUXE TALKING TOOL BELT SET

Who wouldn't love the Deluxe Talking Tool Belt set? It featured everything your young (2 to 5 year old) builder requires to work his own construction site, including a pair of pliers, a screwdriver, a wrench, a hammer and a ruler. They will even be impressed with the belt bucket when it speaks in Bob’s voice and, perhaps most importantly, they will love wearing the hard hat.

If you cannot find the original branded products, you can ad lib. Any pair of little boy's coveralls and construction set would do.

BOB THE BUILDER LEGO DUPLO SETS

There were a total of twenty Bob the Builder-themed Lego Duplo sets released between 2001 and 2009 for children aged 2 to 5 years of age. The smallest set was Sumsy, number 3298-1, with eight pieces and the biggest set was  Bob's Big Building Box, number 3275-1, with 51 pieces.  None of them are made anymore but some of the Bob the Builder Lego sets are still available here on eBay.

Noddy and Friends Movie Gift Set

Noddy is set in a village called Toyland whose people are "committed to friendship, respect, caring, and cooperation." The doll we know as Toddy loves helping others. In this film, he helps those around him realize that it doesn't really matter who goes first but rather that everyone gets a chance to take part.

Thomas & Friends Great Discovery Movie Gift Set

Toy company HASBRO and Kidtoons joined together to create movies based on toys that are appropriate for young children to view. On this page, the second in a series, let's celebrate Thomas and Friends: The Great Discovery Movie.

In this movie, Sodor Day is coming and the engines are busy preparing. When Thomas gets lost in the mountains, he discovers the old town of Great Waterton! Soon the whole island is buzzing with the news of his discovery. Sir Topham Hatt puts Thomas, along with his friends, in charge of restoring the town in time for the Sodor Day celebrations.

Fans of Thomas the Tank Engine need to start with a complete set like the Great Discovery set shown here though of course a complete set is expensive. If buying a set is too much for your budget there are, of course, plenty of other Thomas toy items available. Whatever you choose, combine it with a copy of the movie to create a great little boy's gift set!

Harry Potter Wallets for Harry Potter Fans

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. That is definitely the case with these attractive Harry Potter wallets. They feature themes from our favorite book and movie franchise and they are so cute that I hardly need say a word about them! A picture alone would do the job quite nicely.

Anyway, whether you prefer the Mischief Managed theme, you would like the Hogwarts Express wallet with the platform 9 3/4 reference or you always dreamed of an acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, there is a wallet for you.

Fantastic Beasts Newt Scamander Wand

It's been a long while since I have had a new wand to write about. However, there's a new wizard in town and the folks at Noble Collection have created a wand for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them's wizard Newt Scamander. It is an authentic prop replica, officially licensed and comes complete with a collector's box.

According to the website Fandom, Newton Scamander’s wand was likely purchased from Ollivander's Wand Shop and was constructed from lime with a bone core and some shell at the end. It was of unknown length though the one offered here  from the Noble Collection is 14 inches long.

How exciting that Eddie Redmayne, who portrays Newt Scamander in the film, gave away wands to 6,000 fans at San Diego's Comic Con. Here's your chance to own one, too. I would like to wave my wand and give you one but I am pure muggle so I cannot employ magic to obtain a wand for you and I definitely do not have the connections that Redmayne has in order to be able to give you one so you will just have to follow this link to Amazon to buy your own.

The Beatles Yellow Submarine Lego Set 21306

What fun! Every now and then the Lego company releases a building set that really makes me smile. The Yellow Submarine set, released on November 1, 2016, is one such set.

The Yellow Submarine movie was released in July of 1968 and the soundtrack in January 1969. The record contained classic and new Beatles songs including Yellow Submarine and All You Need is Love. It is not necessarily considered one of the best Beatles albums but "We all live in a yellow submarine..." is a refrain that I am sure you have heard before.

Anyway, back to the Lego set, which is set number 21306 with 553 pieces and recommended for individuals aged 10. It is super fun – done of course in bright yellow and accompanied with four handsome mini-figure versions of the Beatles - John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. In addition, it has a Jeremy figure. For those not in the know, Jeremy is a fictional character that appeared in the original animated movie.

Disney Frozen A Pop-Up Adventure by Matthew Reinhart

Author. Illustrator. Pop-up guru. Matthew Reinhart wears all of those hats and he has just released a new book that retells Disney’s Frozen story. Released on October 4, 2016, this beautiful book is sure to become a collector’s item especially if you buy one and you handle it with care. Of course, you could buy one and leave it unopened but that hardly seems like any fun! This book would make another great gift idea for a Frozen fan, child or adult.

Harry Potter Butterbeer T-Shirt

Another fabulous Harry Potter themed find from Etsy! This time it is a very attractive t-shirt from a shop called Portkey Apparel that has a closet or maybe I should say a chest full of HP options for you.

I like this one because I LOVED the butterbeer when I had it at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I would go back just for the butterbeer. It was that good though I realize it may not be to everyone's taste.

I think this tee would be a great gift idea for any woman you know who loves the world of Harry Potter but don't despair. Portkey has men's options, too and other patterns like Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry crests, Dobby and the Tri-wizard Tournament.

Handmade Harry Potter Signs

Look what I've found, Harry Potter fans! More Harry Potter signs though this time they aren't posters but they are real, handcrafted wooden signs.

Canadian artisan Pete Vassilakos hand makes these signs in his home and you can see for yourself how handsome they are!

They are not mass produced. Instead, they are carefully crafted by hand with attention to detail. In the case of the Hogwarts Railways sign, which I think is my favorite, each rivet was placed by hand. The logo was hand painted and the crest an applied print.

Of the Knockturn Alley sign one buyer said,  "Honestly I did not expect this to be of such high quality. This is truly an art piece. I purchased this to hang outside for Halloween. However, once I saw the quality of this item I knew I couldn't hang it outside. Even my wife insisted that we hang it up in the house. And, it looks fantastic! Amazing attention to detail."  Need I say more, Harry Potter fans?

NEARLY WORDLESS WEDNESDAY POST:

I have followed with a bit of interest the adult coloring trend but never really felt the desire to do any coloring myself. However, that all changed when I saw these Harry Potter-themed coloring books from Scholastic. While they are recommended for those as young as 8 years of age, I think they would be a fine beginning to my return to coloring. How about you?

Star Wars Christmas Holiday Edition R2-D2 and C-3PO Action Figures (2002)

COMMEMORATIVE STAR WARS CHRISTMAS-THEMED ACTION FIGURES BY HASBRO

 
The 2002 Holiday Edition C-3PO and R2-D2 set was a limited edition sold only through Wal-Mart stores and was the first in a series of Holiday Edition commemorative figures produced by Hasbro.

This collectible item was inspired by the 1980s Lucasfilm holiday greeting card art by Ralph McQuarrie, the concept artist responsible for much of the look of the original Star Wars trilogy.

The set comes with a display base and includes a full-sized holiday greeting card, if you care to open up the package though I expect many collectors will prefer not to open the packaging.  This action figure set would make a great and unexpected gift idea for any Star Wars fan, new or old. Valentine's Day Gift Idea For Seniors: I Love Lucy Calendar

Normally, I would not choose to write a post about a 2015 calendar after the year had arrived but I cannot help but think that this is a great Valentine's Day gift idea for someone who remembers I Love Lucy fondly.

It's a practical, useful gift.

It's affordable and doesn't deliver unwanted calories.

It's even decorated for Valentine's Day with a red heart and the word love!
